Configure AssetTrack

  Requirements

 Upload License File

To use AssetTrack with your web browser, you must upload the license key.

  1. Invoke AssetTrack web via http://yourHostNameHere/AssetTrack, to view the AssetTrack license screen

    ❗You must upload the license key via your browser, on a workstation or, on the IIS server where AssetTrack is installed.

    ❗Depending on your security options for Internet Explorer, you may need to add a trusted website to allow access to this site. See 'Add A Trusted Web Site' in Appendix.

    ❗If you cannot access the AssetTrack server, see AssetTrack Server issues

  2. Select the 'Browse' button to locate the license file, If you do not have a valid AssetTrack license key file, please submit a request to AMI Support Help Desk.
  3. Select 'Open' to see the specified license file
  4. Select 'Upload new license' to upload and apply your license key
  5. View the 'AssetTrack Server Settings' window to change or accept the default server settings. For more information on each setting, see Configuring AssetTrack Server settings.
  6. Select 'Save Settings' to continue (you will be prompted to login)
  7. View the login screen, once AssetTrack saves your initial configuration based on the previous steps
  8. Enter your username, password and select the command to log in
  9. You are now logged in and viewing the AssetTrack web application home screen

 Configure AssetTrack Server Settings

To customize or use the default configuration settings for AssetTrack

  1. Invoke AssetTrack web, http://MyHostNameHere/AssetTrack
  2. Log in as administrator, entering the admin name and password
  3. Select 'Settings' from the menu bar on the main screen
  4. Configure the server settings as needed (see Configuration Settings in the Appendix)
  5. Save your settings

Add A Trusted Website

When you first access AssetTrack, Internet Explorer may block the content from the AssetTrack web application. To allow access:

  1. Select Add... on the Internet Explorer popup window that appears
  2. The Trusted Sites window appears
  3. Ensure your host name appears in the Add this website to the zone: control
  4. Select the Add... button
  5. See that your host name is moved into the Websites: list
  6. Select the Close button 
  7. You will now see your AssetTrack website

Configuration Settings

Server Settings

  • Server Label: Note the text label for Server and Mobile interfaces. This is to differentiate between Q/A and Production Servers. See the server label in the title bar of your browser. We recommend you put a label of "TEST" on your test servers when working with test data.
  • Server Version: The AssetTrack Server software version. Use this to report any incidents to AMI support. 
  • License expiration date: The license expiration date. Contact sales@assetmgi.com to renew expired licenses or purchase upgrades. 
  • Maximum asset count: Shows the authorized maximum active asset count. Contact sales@assetmgi.com to increase your authorized maximum asset count. 

Integration Settings

  • Repository integration: Specifies the backend system for AssetTrack to integrate with. This specifies the master database of record. This also controls other required configuration settings:
    • None (standalone) – Choose this to make AssetTrack your master database of record
    • CA Service Management - Choose this to integrate AssetTrack with CA Asset Portfolio Management or CA Service Desk
    • Tabular Files - Choose this to integrate with another system such as HP Asset Center, using tab delimited files
    • Xml Files - Choose this to integrate with another system such as Provance using Xml files.

Web Interface Settings

  • Display time zone: The local timezone to display in the web interface. Date values are stored as GMT times in the database. All values will be converted to the local timezone when displayed.
  • Sync plan display: Used by 'sync plan editing page' to show deactivated locations, organizations and asset types. Leave this to 'Exclude Deactivated' unless you need to include deactivated assets.
  • Allow users to be automatically logged in: Used for showing users the option to be automatically logged in, by storing

  • Allow non-AssetTrack users to collect task data: Only available for Windows authentication mode. When enabled, allows users that have domain accounts but no associated AssetTrack account to collect data using the web forms.

Mobile Device Settings

  • Mobile database refresh interval: The number of minutes to save mobile database files before rebuilding them. When you sync your mobile device with an AssetTrack Server, the server builds a mobile database file which the mobile device then downloads. The server saves this mobile database file for the next device to download so it doesn't have to rebuild it. This improves sync performance when many devices are downloading simultaneously.

    If your AssetTrack Server is integrated with CA Service Management, HP Asset Center or other repository system, keep in mind that the AssetTrack import service copies information from the source repository on a schedule. When the import finishes, mobile databases are rebuilt right then. There is no need to rebuild mobile device databases at any other time, since no changes will occur to the AssetTrack database except when an import runs. Therefore, if you have AssetTrack integrated with APM, Service Desk or other system via the file integration import service, you should have your mobile database refresh interval set to 0. This indicates that the mobile databases are only built immediately following a successful import run.

    If you are an AssetTrack standalone or AssetTrack Live customer, we recommend keeping this setting at 120. This setting will indicate potentially how old your mobile device data can be. Keep this to a low number, unless you find your mobile devices timing out each time they try to sync. In this case, try increasing this timeout number and see if you can get the devices to sync successfully.

Email Notification Settings

  • Notifications enabled: Indicates whether AssetTrack attempts to send mail when specific system events occur
  • SMTP server: Name of the smtp server AssetTrack Server should use to send email notifications
  • Username: Username to use to log in to the SMTP server
  • Password: Password to use to log in to the SMTP server
  • Port: The SMTP server port number. This is typically 25.
  • Use SSL: Indicates whether SSL over SMTP is supported. This should be disabled unless you know your SMTP server is properly configured to use SSL. Note that if SSL is enabled, the port number may not be 25. Please check with your network administrator to get the correct port number in this case.
  • From address: The reply-to address to put on email notifications sent by AssetTrack Server.
  • Email addresses: A list of email addresses to send email notifications to. Separate email address one on each line. You can only put valid email addresses in the email addresses list. Microsoft Exchange group names, for example, will not work.
